On 8th of June 2008, as i took my first step in the office, early morning after an hour’s drive, on the dot, i recieved an immidiate phone call from my Vice Chairman, asking me to come to the Center for the day!
Getting back in the traffic for another 45 minutes drive, i finally reached the Center only to know that we were expecting a VIP visitor, and that i was resposible for the art and craft activities and decent decoration of the children’s play area.
Having given the liberty to pick out just about any stuff from our massive toys stock room, i over loaded the troley with about 50 toy sets, and a hand bump along with 100 balloons with the Center logo.
Rearranging the table set ups, toys and crafts representation, and calling the kids out to participate was just a minor part of my work that day. The task which i found the most difficult and irritating was filling up 100 balloons for the decoration.
As i was in the process of giving finishing touches to the decorations, news spread quickly that the VIP guest has arrived…We all stood nicely and in position to greet the VIP guest. Ten tall and strong body guards first entered the facility, followed by a group of local women. And the moment finally came for which we all worked so hard since morning, a young 3yr old VIP guest, it was Sheikha Fatma Bint Al Mansoor, the grand daughter of Sheikh Mohammad, the crown Prince of Dubai!
She marched in innocently with her two maids, a French teacher, her personal photographers, a media team and her VIP little friends. It was just a bliss to see the little princess go around meeting other kids and enjoying the toys around here and there without the attention of the media who were extremely busy capturing the little princess’s every action, while her french teacher following her and her maids combing her hair literally after every 2 minutes.
She later on distributed gifts to the children in the center. I was just too busy seeing her royalty and trying to get some snaps of her from a good angle. Her leaving the Center was kind of sad because she truely spread the love, beauty and innocence with her baby steps all over the Center. Taking a sad yet satisfactory sigh, i noticed one of her security guards approaching me. He stood beside me like a tall mountain, and in a very heavy voice asked me to show him my cell phone so that i could delete all the photographs which i had taken personally. having deleted 3 of them out of a total 100, he asked me to keep the rest but only if i was careful of not distributing the photographs.
Alas, another wonderful yet exciting day at work came to an end. After three days, another surprise was that i saw myself in all the leading Arabic news papers in a group photograph which the media took to publish Sheikha Fatma’s humble visit to the Center.
The whole experience was truely a memorable one
